The bomb blast occurred at Chairing Cross, Mall Road, Lahore, killing DIG Traffic Capt (r) Ahmad Mubeen, SSP Mahmood Gondal and DSP Pervez Butt, police sources told Daily Pakistan.
The incident occurred as hundreds of chemists were protesting nearby against a new regulatory law, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said.

Many vehicles parked near the blast site caught fire, triggering panic and chaos in the area.
Heavy contingents of police and Rescue-1122 teams have reached the spot and shifting the injured – including policemen and media persons – to nearby hospitals. Firefighters are also busy in extinguishing the fire.
At Chairing Cross, medical store owners were staging a protest sit-in against the Drug Act introduced by the Punjab Government and hundreds of people were present there when the incident occurred.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed the blast, saying that police failed to maintain high-level security due to massive participation of people in the protest.
“It is premature to say anything about the nature of the blast and the exact number of injured people,” he added.
Jamaatur Ahrar, a faction of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed the responsibility of the terror attack in Lahore that took lives of around 16 people, and injured several others.
Last year, on Easter Sunday (March 27, 2016), at least 75 people were killed and over 340 injured in a suicide bombing that hit the main entrance of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, one of the largest parks in Lahore, Pakistan.
The attack targeted Christians who were celebrating Easter. Of the 75 dead, 14 were identified as Christians and the rest (61) as Muslims. The majority of victims were women and children.
Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a group affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban, had claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack led to worldwide condemnation and national mourning throughout Pakistan. As a result, Pakistan launched a widespread counter-terrorism operation in South Punjab, killing prominent leaders of banned outfits and arresting more than 200 people.

SWAT – In an apparent honor killing, a young girl was shot dead by her uncle for allegedly talking to her male cousin on phone.
According to Kalam police, a girl in the Error Valley was killed by her uncle in an honor killing.
According to Mujahid Torwali, a local journalist from Swat, the girl’s uncle ‘caught’ her while she was talking to her cousin on the phone. Assuming it to be a love affair, the uncle killed her the very next morning.
“Utror Valley is buried in snow six feet deep, where the family buried her body, without informing the local police station,” he added.
According to Sher Nawab, a local social activist from Kalam Valley, police are being pressurized by local landlords to conceal the case.
Local activists and social workers from the valley have expressed their serious concerns over increasing reports of similar felonies due to improper investigations. This is the second honor killing in Utror Valley within a year.

ISLAMABAD – In an attempt to promote its ideology and inform followers about its latest actions in the country, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has published the second edition of its high-quality magazine, the local media reported.
The first issue of Mujjallah magazine having 56 pages was published in November 2016 and distributed in Pakistan during December last year.
As per the details, the second edition printed weeks ago is slicker and thicker, as it has more pages than the previous issue with fine printing quality.
The cover carries bulletins regarding activities of outlawed organist ions in Pakistan and also articles on how to prepare bombs and other explosives.
According to The Express Tribune, some experts who are known about the operations of outfits like TTP stated that the magazine has been published after ISIS publications, which were available in different languages, including Arabic and Urdu.
They added that the magazine was being printed in Afghanistan, most likely in Jalalabad, and allegedly circulated throughout Pakistan amongst supporters with limited circulation in Afghanistan.
Analyzing the language used in the magazine, they said that the articles and features were probably written by non-native Urdu speakers. The articles have not been attributed to anyone.
Since TTP has lost ground in Pakistan, the magazine is most likely an attempt to communicate its propaganda, they said, adding that it might be an effort to defame the Pakistan.
When TTP had the strong hold in Pakistan it did not release any publication, but after losing grounds such magazine was published.
According to them, when another banned outfit, Jamaatul Ahrar joined hands with ISIS Khorasan, they incorporated some media specialists from ISIS Iraq and the publication is seemed to be the creation of those specialists.

Jammu and Kashmir have experienced 27 incidents of internet shutdown since 2012, the highest for any Indian state, with nine such instances reported in 2016 only, data released by legal service organization SFLC revealed on Wednesday.

The data provided by Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC) says that since 2012 there have been 62 incidents of internet shutdowns across various regions in 12 states in the country, with 30 being reported in 2016 itself, and four instances in the first month of 2017.

SFLC revealed this data through 'Internet shutdowns.in' launched on Wednesday as a resource website on Internet shutdowns in India.

Mobile internet services were snapped by the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016, citing security reasons. The services were restored on November 19 for post-paid connections and on January 27, 2017, for pre-paid connections.

As a standard procedure, mobile services and mobile internet are snapped in Kashmir Valley on Republic Day and Independence Day. However, this year's Republic Day did not see mobile services and mobile internet being shut down.

Of the total 62 shutdowns recorded since 2012 in India, 44 were targeted at mobile internet services while eight targeted both fixed-line and mobile internet services.

'Internet shutdowns.in' also hosts a continually-updated Internet Shutdown Tracker for India that offers detailed records of all internet shutdowns reported from 2012 and presents this data on an interactive map.

The data available from the website revealed that the number of shutdowns increased more than two-fold from 14 in 2015 to 30 in 2016.

"In democracies, essential social facilities should not be turned off by the State, which acts in the peoples' interests. The Internet should not be intentionally broken by the government, pursuing one form of 'law and order' at the expense of all other social functioning," said Mishi Choudhary, President and Legal Director at SFLC.

He added that internet shutdowns grievously hurt the economy.

"The shutdowns in 2015-16 cost Indian businesses an estimated amount of $968 million," Choudhary said, citing a report by the US policy think-tank Brookings Institution.

The website also gives users an option to report an internet shutdown to keep the tracker updated.
